Solar mobility start-up Lightyear to Automotive Campus

As from august 2017 the young startup Lightyear continues its technology development activities on the leading hotspot for automotive innovation in the Netherlands, at the Automotive Campus in Helmond.

For those who are not up to date: Lightyear is not only 9.4605284 × 10exp.15 meters (a rather large distance for human beings) but also the name of a very ambitious young Dutch startup company focussing on solar driven vehicles. Building on the success of the award winning Stella solar challenge vehicle this team of former students from Eindhoven University of Technology aims at bringing the first fully solar powered car to the market.

Team expansion and development
Last few months this startup has not only attracted new talent in various disciplines but also strengthened its network by working together with Shift2Start. Focus has been on further development of the business plan and on investigating opportunities and partnerships in the automotive supply chain. This matches the philosophy as quoted by Shift2Start :“We love design, we love wheels, but we hate to design the wheel over and over again”

Joined forces
Next to connecting young bright minds to existing and experienced industrial partners Shift2Start also has taken initiative to establish an exchange between various automotive related startups with overlapping technological challenges; in future articles we will be able to disclose more details. Other new candidate start-ups in the automotive and mobility are kindly invited to join the Automotive Incubator Program or to have an exploratory chat with Anton Wolthuis or Herm Verbeek.
